How to count from Passover to Pentecost
What was the Sabbath?
It was Day 14 or the Passover.
On what day did they offer the sheaf of the wave offering?
It was offered the day after the Passover - Leviticus 23: 11 & 12.
How were they to count?
- Count SEVEN sabbaths from the day after the Passover - Leviticus 23: 15.
- Seven sabbaths = 49 days.
- The Feast is the 50th day after the Passover.
Example:
- Passover 2026 was Friday 1st April.
- Put your pen on Saturday 2nd April
- Count 7 Sabbaths thereafter (49 days)
- Pentecost will be on the 50th day = Saturday 23rd May, 2026
NB: the Day of Pentecost is a sabbath, so the observance begins from the evening of the previous day to the evening of the Sabbath itself.
Since the Day of Pentecost follows a sabbath, there are two successive days off.

What happened in ancient Israel on the Day of Pentecost?
Under the law of Moses, Israel gave offerings of various kinds to the Lord in observance of the Feast. It was the time of the firstfruits and feast of weeks:
Firstfruit offerings were given to the LORD - Leviticus 23: 17:
...two wave loaves of two-tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven.
Burnt offerings - Leviticus 23: 18, Numbers 28: 26-31.
‘And you shall offer with the bread seven lambs of the first year, without blemish, one young bull, and two rams. They shall be as a burnt offering to the LORD, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, an offering made by fire for a sweet aroma to the LORD.

‘Then you shall sacrifice one kid of the goats as a sin offering, and two male lambs of the first year as a sacrifice of a peace offering.
‘The priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering before the LORD, with the two lambs. They shall be holy to the LORD for the priest.
Rejoice before the Lord - Deuteronomy 16: 11
“You shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, the Levite who is within your gates, the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are among you, at the place where the LORD your God chooses to make His name abide.
Holy Convocation - Leviticus 23: 21
‘And you shall proclaim on the same day that it is a holy convocation to you. You shall do no customary work on it. It shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
Remember how God brought us out from the slavery of sin:
“And you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and you shall be careful to observe these statutes - Deuteronomy 16: 12

Since the law is a shadow of things to come, Pentecost for the believer in Jesus is more than an observance.
Therefore, believers in Jesus are to observe a rest day where possible, rejoice before the Lord, give offerings, keep our lives free from sin and wave praises to God as part of our worship, just as in the heavenly places:

Passover:
- spiritual cleansing
- firstfruits = souls saved
- smaller numbers
Pentecost
- maps infilling with the Holy Spirit.
- larger numbers enter the church.
Feast of Ingathering
- maps Marriage Supper of the Lamb - great emphasis on the return of Christ, living righteously, bearing much fruit.
- greater harvest of souls.
